NC Burn Surge Disaster Program PDF Print
Information
Written by Lyle Johnston

The North Carolina Burn Surge Disaster Program is based upon the premise that historical catastrophic events have occurred and produced significant burn and blast injuries.  Current burn beds are routinely running at capacity both within our state and across the nation. With the likelihood of these events occurring in the future, there is distinct necessity for better preparedness for these likely events.

Information about this program can be found at the following website.  www.ncburndisaster.org.  There are many educational and informational sections on this website, including information about upcoming Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) Courses.

SERVNC Volunteer Registry PDF Print
Information
Written by Lyle Johnston

Any North Carolina resident who is willing to volunteer to be deployed locally, regionally, statewide, and/or federally in the event of a disaster is encouraged to register through an Internet-based registry called SERVNC.

It is important for North Carolina to have a base of volunteers to draw from in the event of a disaster or an emergency. Through SERVNC we will be able to create a roster of volunteers during a disaster whose skills meet those identified as needed to respond. SERVNC will help to mobilize needed manpower on short notice.

The registration process is simple and takes no more than 15 minutes. Those interested should go to www.servnc.org/. During registration you will be asked for contact information, deployment preferences, medical history, occupation and skills. If not already assigned to a response team, registrants may request to join a team already listed on SERVNC.

In the event of an emergency the system will electronically check the volunteers’ medical credentials, send a message to the volunteers via e-mail, telephone and/or pager, and provide notification of all mission specific information and instructions for accepting or declining the mission.

The SERVNC registry will provide the backup our first responders will need in the event of a disaster or emergency.
